It’s a dark world that we live in.  People are searching for something to fill the void inside of them.  Drugs, sex, pornography….. facebook affairs, video games, fantasy sports, food…. a husband, a boyfriend, a baby…… work, good deeds, degrees, grades, money, empire building.  Anything that will satisfy.  But the problem is that nothing does satisfy.  Maybe for a little while, these things will numb the pain, but quickly it takes more and more to get the same relief.  Nothing satisfies.

All around us are hurting people.  And hurting people hurt people.  Hurting people make poor choices and hurting people have no problem at all causing pain to those around them.  So how do we respond?  With love!

Love is the only thing that will make a difference.  I know that I do not have enough love to love those right under my own roof, let alone those outside the border of my yard.  But God so loved the world that he sent his son Jesus.  And his perfect love not only takes away the sins that keep me from loving, his love fills me to overflowing.  And if I am willing to make my life a conduit, then his love can flow through me to the world. I can tell you for sure, that that love cannot flow unless it flows out of a deep personal relationship with God.  On my own, there is no flow.  On my own there is judgement, pride, anger, disapproval, rolling eyes…… but that is not who I want to be and it is not who I am called to be.

We all come into this world with a deep need to be loved.  Many people never feel loved and they spend their whole life seeking out something to fill that void.  If we could allow the Lord to use us to love others, they will be drawn to him.  If we allow the Lord to pour his love through us to this hurting generation, he will  meet their deep need for love.  His love is the only thing that will satisfy. Press into him and let him fill the void in you, then allow his love to flow through you to those in your community, family, neighborhood, workplace, class, campus or apartment complex.  Pray and ask him to show you where he is already working and then join him in loving this lost generation and bringing them to Jesus.  He alone will satisfy.

He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”  Luke 10:27
